We are delighted that you are seeking baptism for yourself or your child. We would like to share with you our understanding of the sacrament, and its place in the life of our congregation.
Throughout the pages of the New Testament, we encounter the sacrament of baptism over and over again. We read that:
Jesus, at the beginning of His ministry, was baptized by John in the River Jordan.
On the day of Pentecost, three thousand new believers confessed their faith and were baptized.
When people brought their children to Jesus, He received them joyfully, saying that anyone who wants to enter the Kingdom of God must enter as (like) a child.
The promises of baptism are to us and our children.
In baptism, we as Christians find forgiveness, and we are one with Christ and with one another in new life.
Baptism is only the start of our child's life in Christ and in the church. As your child grows physically, mentally, and socially, you should also expect your child to grow morally and spiritually. Here are some steps you can take to nurture your child in the Christian life:
Cultivate a Christian home environment.
Live your faith each day.
Lift up Christian values.
Trust in the grace of God.
Recall and celebrate the anniversary of your child's baptism.
Anticipate your child's confirmation.
Give your child room to grow throughout life. Trust in your child, and above all, trust in God.
Baptism is not an end in itself, but rather is the entry point to a life of Christian discipleship as part of a church community. We hope that after your child's, or your baptism, your relationship with God will continue to grow. We also hope that you will participate in the life of the congregation - worshiping, learning, caring for others, and serving the wider world.
Please call the church to make an appointment with Reverend Karluk to discuss your wish for baptism. At that meeting you will have a chance to ask any questions you may have.
